How is gene therapy being studied in the treatment of cancer?
Our scientist researching a treatment for cancer.
In our lab, scientists are studying several ways to treat cancer using gene therapy. Some approaches include targeting healthy cells to fight cancer. Other approaches target cancer cells to prevent their growth. Some gene therapy techniques under study are:
- In one approach, we replace missing or altered genes with healthy genes to prevent cancer.
- We are also studying different techniques to improve a patient's immune response to cancer. Gene therapy is used to enhance the ability to fight cancer.
- We are also studying different techniques of injecting the cells for patients to be less sensitive to treatments of cancer such as chemotherapy.
- Other research is focused on the use of gene therapy to prevent cancer cells from developing new blood vessels.
